MSU to host inaugural Junior Civics Leadership Academy
The Junior Civics Leadership Academy (JCLA) is an inaugural program developed and hosted by the John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development at Mississippi State University. The mission of JCLA is to provide rising 10th through 12th grade students the opportunity to learn first-hand the intricacies of local, state, and federal government, as well as participate in community impact projects. Students will take part in presentations from elected officials, state and local agencies across Mississippi, and will explore foundational educational components of governance, policy, and public administration. Students will also visit Starkville City Hall, the State Capitol, and the Two Mississippi Museums. JCLA will provide rising high school students the opportunity to learn about the importance of effective governance and policy making at multiple levels of government. Participants can expect a fun, enriching experience on Mississippi State University’s campus, where they will learn from public policy and political science experts all while receiving 3 hours of elective credit to apply towards a degree at MSU.
