Message from the Department Head

Welcome to the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (PSPA). The Department has a rich curriculum and allied activities to provide a well-rounded education for undergraduates, preparing them to be critical thinkers, productive citizens, and leaders in a wide range of careers: government and public service, the professorate, jurisprudence, as well as an array of managerial options in the private sector. During their study, students complete a rigorous program of course work, participate in a variety of auxiliary programs such as the Pre-Law Society, the Model Security Council, and the Stennis Institute Internship programs in Washington, D. C.

The foci of our graduate programs are public administration and public policy, specializations on which a good many of the faculty concentrate their research and publication. The MPPA Program provides professional and clinical training (required internships) for those interested in executive and managerial positions in public service. The Ph.D. Program is a research-oriented degree that prepares students for careers as scholars and researchers. Most of them go on to academic posts in colleges and universities, while others attain high-level executive policy positions in public or not-for-profit agencies. We have been very successful in placing our professional degree recipients in leading national roles, and our academic degree recipients in colleges and universities.

In these pages you will find information offering further details about our faculty, students and curriculum. We invite you to contact us if we can provide additional information about PSPA and its activities.

Minion K. C. Morrison, Ph.D.
Professor and Head
